Iodine is a chemical element that our bodies need but cannot produce, and unless we purposeful add it into our diet, it can be hard to come by. One of the major benefits we see from iodine intake is that it helps the thyroid gland produce hormones. If the thyroid gland doesn’t have enough iodine to do its job, the thyroid gland will have to work harder. This can cause issues such as an enlarged thyroid gland, otherwise known as ‘goiter.'
